The YÖS (Foreign Student Examination) is an entrance examination designed for foreign students wishing to study in higher education institutions in Turkey. This examination was set and administered by the Student Selection and Placement Centre (ÖSYM) until 2010 when universities began conducting their own versions of the exam. The results of this exam apply only for students wishing to enroll in undergraduate programs. Medicine and dentistry departments are usually the most competitive ones and require near-perfect YÖS scores.
Content of the YÖS
The YÖS is composed of the “Basic Learning Skills Test” which assesses abstract reasoning. This section includes 80 questions, 45 IQ and 35 math. It takes 90 minutes.
Content of the YÖS varies according to each university. Some universities do not have IQ sections while some universities have more difficult questions than other YÖS exams. However, in general, YÖS includes a quite huge range of mathematics topics from basic to advanced. YÖS almost covers all high school mathematics topics from the start, which might be troublesome for the students without a math background.
